Scientific Background
Mucin 2 (MUC2) the skeleton of the intestinal mucus and covers and protects the intestinal tract from self-digestion and numerous microorganisms. In the small intestine, the mucus covers the villi and act as a diffusion barrier that still allows nutritional uptake.
